Chianti Rufina is among the 7 sub-areas of Chianti the smallest in terms of surface, very close to the Tuscan Apennines’ peaks ,it stands out for the elegance and freshness of its wines .
The Fattoria Il Lago is located in the highest part of Chianti Rufina over 400 meters of altitude where the climate is greatly affected by the proximity of the mountains ,which in summer benefit from constant ventilation during the day. and a significant night temperature range, ideal climate for the production of fine and fresh wines.
The vineyards of the farm cover the hills of the farm like many small spots of paint on a large canvas, some large, some small, without uniformity but distributed according to the natural conformation of the land with slopes typical of mountain viticulture, carved among woods and trees such as a painting of a natural beauty. The Sangiovese grape stands out, tenacious and austere grows strong between the rocks and the hardest clay, but also the gentle Pinot Nero and the soft Syrah have found their rightful place in the more humid and cooler areas of the farm..
The cellar is located at the entrance of the farm,it is an old stone building always been used as a cellar and the monumental wooden grape press of the 18th century is the testimony .
Inside there are both the steel tanks, used for alcoholic fermentation and the concrete tanks used for the subsequent malolactic fermentation. The Oak french barriques used for wines to age in wood are located in the basement of Villa Il Lago, an ideal place for the constant temperatures and humidity.
